Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents moved to Louisiana in the early 90s. Decker won a regional talent contest with her version of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart when she was just nine years old. Decker's family relocated out of Louisiana and into Georgia in the summer of 1995. She had been writing music regularly as well as visiting Nashville to look for deals. In her early teens when she was 17, a Big Yellow Dog Records representative saw her work and began to sell her tracks to labels and artists. Decker agreed to sign a contract with Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records President David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. Then, in August of 2009 Decker released her first self-titled album, titled Jessie James. Jessie James, which featured Wanted as a number one hit within the Top 40 Singles Charts was moderately well-received. Decker was always viewed as a country singer, but the album's marketing and production was designed to appeal to a more pop-oriented audience. Decker was unable to gain control over the music she made available after her two prior singles weren't popular. The second album that Decker released with the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and three singles did poorly on the country charts Decker was released from her contract.
